When our son, Dashiell “Dash”, was born in 1999 our family was living in multiple countries spread out over the world. We decided to take a photograph of little Dash every single day of his life. Not interrupting him or asking him to smile or anything- just his life as we saw it. Because we had the same audience (our family and friends) and the same subject (Dash) the challenge became trying to make each image interesting and different from the previous one. So we began experimenting with angles and focus and weird light and strange lenses. This constant search for the unique in this daily project turned us into professional photographers. Dash’s sister, Magali “Dex”, was born when Dash was three. So we started photographing her as well. Now we only take one image a day of either or both of them. With the exception of ONE day that Felix was in the hospital, we have never missed a day in sixteen years photographing them. We have a collection of over 17,000 images of our kids (now 16 and 13 years old). Here’s a glimpse of that undertaking:
